Karla's journey as an activist began July 2016 after the deaths of Philando Castile and local resident Kawme Patrick. These murders were both the final straw and the beginning of doing SOMETHING! Karla has been determined to be a voice and bring about awareness in Columbus, Ohio. As an activist she founded Blackout for Black Lives and organized a march, which created a platform for families of victims to share their untold narratives.

Karla continues to research and challenge the contents of the cases as they are laid out by the police and media.

"In the end we cannot continue to let the victim's voices be silenced by the lies! It is time to stand up and do our DUE DILIGENCE. In time where the INJUSTICES are greater than any JUSTICE that WE as BLACK PEOPLE will ever see, it is time to put all boots on the ground, melt OUR minds together, and seek ACTION as ONE. We are beyond asking for what is fair. It's time to SERVE NOTICE on what it is the WE DEMAND!"
